A
large IT Service provider is a growing professional
services company. Most of current growth
is through acquisition. Multiple acquisitions
have resulted in a complex mix of systems
- network operating system platforms, disparate
email systems, challenges in sharing information
across the company, and an inconsistent
“brand imaging” to its customers.
The client has recently made an investment
in Microsoft technologies to bring consistency
to its complex IT environment to provide
an enabling platform for current HR user
self-service applications, as well as future
collaboration and document-management solutions.
Most of the business locations have implemented
Netware at the desktop-level. Other business
locations use stand-alone NT4.0 desktops
and Active Directory. All these systems
are disconnected. The Messaging infrastructure
consist of many disparate mail systems (Exchange
2000, Exchange 5.5, GroupWise, Lotus Notes
and Linux mail). Although the client’s
objective was to utilize a single-image
desktop platform based on Microsoft technology,
the primary goal was to achieve a single-view
as soon as possible with current disconnected
and diverse systems.
